Heating and Ventilating Technician

Position Type: Full-time, Hourly

Department: Parks

Compensation Range: $23.80 - $27.73
Closing Date: Open until filled

Job Summary: Install, operate, maintain, and repair heating, ventilating, air conditioning,, steam, boilers and other related equipment throughout county Parks facilities. To assist in emergency maintenance, preventative maintenance and other duties as needed to ensure code compliance and preservation, enhancement, and protection of department assets.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • To install, troubleshoot and repair heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and other related equipment orders and emergency repair needs.

  • Provide preventative maintenance on heating, ventilating, air conditioning, steam, boilers and other related equipment.

  • Inspect and perform minor repairs while monitoring operation and performance of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, steam, boilers and other related equipment.

  • Utilize a variety of different BAS systems to ensure correct system operation.

  • Test and treat boilers, water towers, and closed loop systems to ensure appropriate treatment levels. Adjust treatment and levels accordingly. Keep detailed records of maintenance operations.

  • Process purchase requests, inventory supplies, process work orders, review blueprints, building codes, and technical manuals. Maintain equipment logs and assist with project management. Assist in creating PM schedules.

  • To work with other trades and outside vendors in the repair and maintenance of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, steam, boilers and other related equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma/GED equivalent required.  Associate’s Degree in HVAC and three years of related system experience OR HVAC certification and five or more years of job related experience.  Refrigerant handling certification is required. A valid Wisconsin driver’s license is also required.

Possess and maintain one of the following licenses:

  • ASOPE Facility Operating Engineer 1st Class

  • Power  Plant Operational Engineer 3rd Class

  • NIULPE 4th Class Engineer

Required Abilities:

  • Push, pull, lift and carry up to 50lbs on a  consistent basis.

  • Work outdoors in extreme weather conditions – hot, cold, snow, rain etc.

  • Work flexible schedules with the ability to be on call

  • Climb ladders and work at heights

  • Good communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with other trades and contractors

  • Read construction drawings and understand specifications

 

Special Instructions:  This Original Examination is open to qualified applicants currently residing in the State of Wisconsin.  In accordance with Rule III, Section 12 of the Civil Service Rules, a noncompetitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources to rank applicants on the eligible list for this position.
