If you are a new or upcoming nursing graduate looking to work 2nd or 3rd shift, we have a great opportunity for you! Milwaukee County Behavioral Health is hiring Graduate Nurses to work in our acute care, child/adolescent, and crisis/emergency departments.

Job Summary: Directs and provides nursing care for patients utilizing the nursing process while adhering to the ANA Psychiatric - Mental Health Nursing Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics. 

 Job Responsibilities: 


• Applies the nursing process in the provision of patient care.

 

• Maintains and supervises a safe recovery-oriented environment/milieu for patients and staff.

• Descriptive: Collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary team members to meet patient needs.

• Directs and delegates patient care to other staff in accordance with patient needs and staff capabilities and qualifications.

• Responds and intervenes appropriately to behavioral and medical emergencies.

• Documents information related to patient care utilizing approved forms and technology per policy and procedure.

• Provides patient and family education as indicated.

• Plans and performs group activities with patients.

Sign on bonus paid during the first year of employment. First half paid after successful completion of six month probationary period from date of hire. Second half paid out at one year anniversary. Current Milwaukee County Employees are not eligible for new hire sign on bonus.

This position is open on a continuous basis until further notice.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

The ORIGINAL EXAMINATION is open to qualified residents of the United States. Appointee must establish residency within the confines of the State of Wisconsin within six months of appointment and maintain such residency during incumbency.  In accordance with Rule III Section 12 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources to rank applicants on the eligible list for this position.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Final semester of an accredited Nursing program  and currently eligible to take the Nclex exam within 90 days after graduation.
  • Must acquire State of Wisconsin Registered Nurse licensure within 90 days of employment. 

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of the current theory methods techniques and practices of nursing; knowledge of legal and ethical standards of nursing practice; supervisory skills; problem solving skills; English oral and written communication skills; ability to work in stressful situations; ability to make safe and competent judgments; ability to walk to assigned areas of the facility; ability to stand squat flex legs bend at the waist and walk-up stairs; ability to lift 25 pounds; ability to work effectively and harmoniously with clients’ personnel and professionals.
