Airport Maintenance Worker

Position Type: Full-time, non-exempt

Department: General Mitchell International Airport

Compensation Range: $19.17 - $25.29 ($39,879 - $52,608)
Closing Date: Wednesday February 21, 2018 @ 5:59 pm CST

*Please note working on any assigned shift, any day or night of the week or during emergency situation will be required.

Job Summary:

Under direct supervision to perform a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled tasks in the care and maintenance of buildings, grounds, equipment, fixtures and facilities at Milwaukee County owned and operated airports; to operate and maintain power and construction equipment, trucks, jeeps, sweepers, tractors with attachments, snow removal equipment; and other vehicles over 25,000 GVW; to assist skilled tradesmen and other maintenance personnel; and to perform other such duties as may be assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent

License/Certifications:

  • Possession of a valid Wisconsin commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B (no airbrake restriction) at time of application and maintained during incumbency is required.

Experience:

  • Experience operating a wide variety of vehicles and equipment preferred;

  • Experience in semi-skilled mechanical maintenance preferred;

  • Building and grounds maintenance and construction related work preferred. (NOTE: Appointees to Airport Maintenance Worker positions must successfully demonstrate skill in the use and operation of airport equipment.)

  • Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 60 pounds on a daily basis.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the techniques, methods, materials and equipment used in maintenance and improvement of highways, roads, buildings, grounds, and equipment;

  • Knowledge of public safety rules and regulations; knowledge of and familiarity with the maintenance, lubrication, and minor repair of a wide variety of vehicles, machinery, and equipment;

  • Skill in operating and driving trucks, tractors, jeeps, and other equipment used in snow removal and in the improvement and maintenance of grounds and roads;

  • Ability to lift repetitively up to 60 pounds;

  • Ability to follow both oral and written instructions, ability to use hand tools;

  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions;

  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with others.

 

Special Instructions: This Original Examination is open to qualified internal and external candidates of the State of Wisconsin.  The selection process will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: education and experience evaluation; written, oral, or performance tests, or other assessment methods.
