Director of Operations and Maintenance

Position Type: Full-time, (Salaried)

Department: Facilities Services

Compensation Range: $82,139.62 - $126,111.02
Closing Date: January 26, 2018 @ 5:59pm CST

Job Summary: The position provides management and oversight of building services related to housekeeping, security, maintenance, trades and mail delivery services.  Staffing for these services includes County staffing and contractual services for approximately 3.7 million square feet of building space and associated grounds.  The major objective is the safe, efficient and continuous operation of facilities under the jurisdiction of the Department of Administrative Services. 


Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain standards, respond to complaints/issues, direct and assign staff, and liaison with tenant departments, the public and contractors.  Either directly or through assigned staff, respond to telephone, email and “walk-in” communications, complaints, etc.

  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of the Courthouse Complex, which includes the Courthouse, Safety Building, Criminal Justice Facility, Medical Examiner, Coggs Human Services Building, Vel Phillips Juvenile Justice Center, Facilities West and associate grounds.  This position will also oversee the closure of County real estate assets.

  • Implementation and related contracting of Cityworks electronic maintenance system for the areas directly administered by this position.

  • Assist the Architectural & Engineering Services Section with management of projects approved in the Capital Improvement Program for the Facilities Management Division.  Oversee the Time & Materials contractor projects and assist in project planning.

  • Monitor and maintain leases between Milwaukee County and non-County entities residing in county facilities under the jurisdiction of the Department of Administrative Services.

  • This position will be responsible for creating and monitoring policies related to the use, operation and maintenance of county facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Facilities Management or closely related field. Five (5) years of facilities management experience and five (5) years of employee supervisory/management experience is required.  A valid state of Wisconsin driver’s license is also required.
