Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Paramedic Instructor

Compensation Range: $32.94 to $39.05 per hour

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Emergency Management System (EMS) Education Supervisor the EMS Paramedic Instructor will create, prepare, and deliver content in the Office of Emergency Management (OEM )and EMS-related courses including, but not limited to, the initial Paramedic curriculum.

Position Duties:

  1. Supervise and evaluate students in a classroom, clinical, and field setting. Develop, implement, and evaluate examinations.

  2. Deliver continuing education to certified EMS professionals. Help, support, and provide growth opportunities for the EMS professionals in Milwaukee County.

  3. Develop and deliver Emergency Medical Services content. Develop curricula for initial paramedic and continuing education which complies with state and national guidelines. Deliver curricula to EMS providers in Milwaukee County.

  4. Clinical and Field Instructor. Supervise, manage, and lead student groups in hospital and alternative care settings; manage and instruct in out-of-hospital settings on ambulance services.  This includes initial paramedic instruction and continuing education.

  5. Research Emergency Medical Services Technology. Research, refine, and implement “Best Practices” to align with emerging technology and current patient care trends.

  6. Student Advisor. Manage student groups enrolled in OEM and EMS coursing during training.  Assist, advise, and mentor diverse group of students in initial paramedic instruction through licensure and examination process.

  7. Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Improvement (QI). Collaborate with OEM EMS QA/QI department to evaluate clinical and field operations within the Milwaukee County EMS system.  Serve as an educational liaison for education and remediation delivery.

  8. Complete and administer other duties as assigned for the benefit of Milwaukee County EMS and OEM.
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree, from an accredited educational institution AND at least three (3) years of work experience in Education and/or Emergency Medical Services.

OR

  • Possession of an Associate's Degree, from an accredited educational institution, and at least five (5) years of work experience in Education and/or Emergency Medical Services required.
  • EMT-Paramedic Certification required. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education and/or Emergency Medical Services preferred.  
  • Note: ACLS and PALS required within six (6) months of hire and to be maintained through incumbency; instructor certification in ACLS, PALS, CPR, and/or EMS preferred.
  • Register Nurse preferred.
