Assistant Highway Maintenance Supervisor

Compensation Range:  $55,451 - $63,690 Annually

JOB SUMMARY:  Under the general management direction of the department the Assistant Highway Maintenance Supervisor will assign, direct and coordinate the work of highway crews in the maintenance, improvements and snowplowing operations on the Interstate, State, and County trunk highways as directed by the State DOT and County officials. The major objective is to keep the motoring public and the citizens of Milwaukee County safe.

 JOB DUTIES:

·       Schedule, prioritize, assign, and direct the work of highway crews.

·       Supervise the repair of roads, culverts, sewers, bridges, and curbs.

·       Direct crews during snow removal and ice control operations.

·       Direct crews to see that grass and weeds are kept under control.

·       Investigate complaints from Milwaukee County Supervisors and citizens.

·       Maintain records and reports in a timely manner to include crew sheets, work      orders, reports to State DOT.

·       Requisition, receive, and account for tools, materials, and supplies.

·       Work any assigned shift and respond to emergencies when needed.

·       Perform all other duties as assigned by upper management.

Minimum Qualifications

·       Possession of a high school diploma or G.E.D.

·       Possession of a valid Wisconsin Class B CDL with no air brake restriction at time          of application and maintained during incumbency.

·       A minimum of three (3) years of highway maintenance experience.

·       Basic knowledge of all related computer and Microsoft Office Software such as Word and Excel.

  • Ability to work assigned shift any day or night of the week, weekends, and holidays is required. Position is subject to 24 emergency call-in.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 60 pounds as needed.

 

Preferred:

·       Completion of the Milwaukee County Department of Transportation LEAD program.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the techniques, methods, materials, and equipment used in highway and expressway maintenance and improvement work; knowledge of defensive driving techniques; skill in  working  and driving safely in a variety of inclement weather conditions; ability to keep accurate records; ability to operate highway maintenance equipment; supervisory ability;  ability to prioritize job tasks; ability to respond to emergencies;  ability to schedule mowing on 3300 acres of interstate, state and county truck roadways; ability to enter work orders and equipment; ability to work effectively and harmoniously with others.
