*Part-time position (20 hours per week). Vacancies are open on all shifts.

Job Summary: This position is a member of the adult Crisis Mobile Team that focuses on completing psychiatric/psychosocial/medical assessments and providing services in the community for individuals 18 years of age or older. The major objective is to provide crisis stabilization services to individuals in the community as often as possible and connect them to needed services, even hospitalization, when deemed necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct psychiatric and medical assessment of the adult (18-64 years) patient based upon knowledge of the normal bio- psycho-social development of adulthood. Complete assessments of risk.
  • Intervene in and manage the acute crisis phase of mental illness in the community. De-escalate, stabilize, and resolve mental health crisis events (may include remaining with the client in their community setting until stabilized and linked with other services).
  • Provide follow-up and treatment to clients who experience crisis events but may not yet be linked to other services. Refer to other BHD programs and with any other appropriate resources in the community.
  • Implement the patient's plan of care by utilizing psychotherapeutic interventions, related to crisis assessment, as well as the development of a crisis plan.
  • Consults and collaborates with the Community Services Branch (TCM/CSP), local hospitals, police, the CART Team, CLASP program, and other mental health professionals. Provide community education regarding crisis management and mental health services.
  • Trained as a full member of the Crisis Mobile Team and will assist in the Access Clinic, the Observation Unit, answering of the crisis line, and provide nursing assessment (TB/medication orders) for admission to the Crisis Stabilization Houses.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Sign on bonus paid out over the first year of employment. First half paid after successful completion of six month probationary period from date of hire. Second half paid out at one year anniversary.  Current Milwaukee County Employees are not eligible for new hire bonus.

This position is open on a continuous basis until further notice.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

The ORIGINAL EXAMINATION is open to qualified residents of the United States. Appointee must establish residency within the confines of the State of Wisconsin within six months of appointment and maintain such residency during incumbency.  In accordance with Rule III Section 12 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources to rank applicants on the eligible list for this position.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing
  • Registered Nursing License in the State of Wisconsin
  • Tw0 (2) or more years of experience in crisis services/psychiatric nursing is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Knowledge of the current theory methods techniques and practices of nursing; knowledge of legal and ethical standards of nursing practice; supervisory skills; problem solving skills; English oral and written communication skills; ability to work in stressful situations; ability to make safe and competent judgments; ability to walk to assigned areas of the facility; ability to stand squat flex legs bend at the waist and walk-up stairs; ability to lift 25 pounds on a regular basis; ability to work effectively and harmoniously with clients’ personnel and professionals.
