Airport Grounds Worker Seasonal

Department:  5040 - Airport

Compensation Range:   $14.28 per hourly
Closing Date:  Open until filled.

JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, performs maintenance to Airport grounds and properties; operates motorized vehicles to include pickup trucks with trailers, riding, mowers, weed eaters and leaf blowers; mows and trims grass on Airport Grounds and outlying properties owned by the Airport; picks up litter and sweeps pavements; maintains flower beds; plants, cultivates, pulls weeds and fertilizes; and to perform such other duties as may be assigned.

 JOB DUTIES:

·       Operate motorized vehicles, including pickup trucks with trailers, riding mowers, weed eaters and leaf blowers.

·       Mow and trim grass on Airport grounds and outlying properties owned by the Airport.

·       Pick litter and sweep pavements.

·       Maintain flower beds.

·       Maintain flower beds, plant, cultivate, pull weed and fertilize.

Minimum Qualifications

·       Possession of a High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required

·       Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver’s license at time of application    and maintained during incumbency is required

·       Some grounds maintenance experience is required.

·       Ability to lift/carry up to 60 lbs. and push/pull up to 60Ibs. is required.

NOTE:  Appointee must obtain a Class 2 Airport Driver’s License with two weeks of appointment and maintain during incumbency.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of equipment operation, knowledge of grounds keeping, planting and pruning methods; knowledge of basic building and landscaping techniques; knowledge of the safe methods of herbicide application; knowledge of proper 2-way radio communication and operations; and ability to work effectively and harmoniously with skilled trades people.

      

 

Note: This Original Examination is open to current residents of the state of Wisconsin.  In accordance with Rule III section 11 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position.  The non-competitive examination will consist of a review of candidate materials, education and related experience.
