Clinical Translator (Spanish/English)
Department: Behavioral Health Division (16th Street Community Health Center Location)
Job Summary: Milwaukee County is creating a partnership with Sixteenth St. Community Health Center to bring increased behavioral health services to the city's south side community. The Clinical Translator will be responsible for performing translation/transliterating services of oral and/or written communications between English and Spanish for BHD clinical staff providing services to community members. This position will answer inquiries from clients, community agencies, and individuals and then interpret and explain words and phrases for meaning and appropriateness to service providers. Minimum Qualifications
Current resident of the state of WisconsinHS Diploma or GED equivalentAble to read, write, and speak both English and Spanish fluently is required. This skill we be tested prior to offer of employmentAt least two (2) total years of recent work experience providing Translation (Spanish/English) Services is required. Having this experience in community behavioral health, public health or in a community agency setting is desired Able to demonstrate translation certification or completion of related training is highly preferredProficient with office equipment including answering/using a multi-line phone system and scanning equipment is requiredBasic experience with computer and software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.Able to lift/carry/push/pull up to 15lbs as needed Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of office practices, principles, methods and procedures; knowledge of spelling, grammar and punctuation; knowledge and proficiency in the use of a personal computer; written and oral communication skills; organizational skills; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to maintain records, files and store items numerically, alphabetically or by classification; ability to perform data entry into a computer system; ability to work effectively and harmoniously with others; ability to maintain sensitive or confidential information; ability to relate well to people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
