Job Summary: Under general supervision; to install, maintain and repair electrical systems on the Interstate, State Trucks, and County Highway Systems.
To install, maintaining, and repair electrical power, transmission, lighting communication signal, alarm systems, traffic signals, instruments, apparatus and other equipment
To terminate and complete splices on high voltage cable; to troubleshoot circuit problems; to install motors, motor starting switches and remote equipment.
to troubleshoot motor controls and automatic sequence controls; to interpret blueprints, sketches, specifications and diagrams; to requisition supplies and materials.
to use tools of the electric trade for component construction; to follow local and national codes and safety requirements.
to operate CDL rated power lift boom trucks while working in extreme heights and in confined places.
All other duties as assigned.
Current resident of the state of Wisconsin
Graduation from High School or G.E.D. equivalent required.
Valid state of Wisconsin driver’s license at time of hire and maintained throughout employment.
Ability to secure a Class B CDL with no air brake restriction license within six months of hire date.
Five (5) years of experience as a journeyman electrician is required.
Completion of an Electrician apprenticeship recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Industry, Labor and Human Relations or Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, United States Department of Labor is required.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 60lbs on a regular basis.
Able to work outside in any weather condition from extreme heat to extreme cold.
Able to work at heights and in confined spaces.
Basic data entry for City Works job orders.
Preferred areas: Possession of State of Wisconsin Journeyman’s Electrician license is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, and process of the trade; knowledge of power systems and application of electrical theory, principles, procedures, and materials as applied to high voltage systems; knowledge of electronic and solid state circuitry; knowledge of local and national codes and safety requirements; knowledge of instruments used to determine problems in all phases of electrical and/or electronic systems; skill in the use of tools; ability to work at heights and in contained areas; ability to work without direct supervision; ability to effectively and harmoniously with others.
