Psychiatric Social Worker - Full Time FLOAT

Department:  Behavioral Health Division

Compensation Range: $21.19 - $30.72 per hour
Closing Date: Open until position is filled

Job Summary: Under minimal direction, to perform social work services at a comprehensive behavioral health facility serving children, adolescents and adults in a continuum of care providing emergency, outpatient, day hospital, inpatient, aftercare services.


Duties:  To make psycho-social and AODA assessments; to develop and execute discharge planning; to act as a liaison with community resources to facilitate aftercare services and placements; to function as a member of a mental health team in diagnostic formulations and implementation of treatment plans with patients and families; to function as the team’s Treatment Plan Coordinator in developing and recording treatment plans; to participate in multi-disciplinary team staffing; to use individual,; to meet productivity goals established by the Department; to present policies on Advanced Directives to patients and families; to provide education and information on mental illness and community resources to families of patients; to confer with community agencies, schools and courts; to serve as a consultant to the courts; to participate in community visits when required; to transport clients to community placements, to participate in staff development and quality assurance activities; to contribute to planning and evaluation efforts in the development of community health services;; to participate in community consultation and education program, to maintain records and prepare reports according to agency and funding source guidelines; and to perform such other duties as may be assigned. 


Minimum Qualifications

  • Current resident of United States and willing to establish residency in Wisconsin within six months of hire date

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling or Psychology is required

  • Certification as a Social Worker in the State of Wisconsin (either APSW or LCSW) is required

  • 3,000 hours of paid employment as a Social Worker is required; preferably in a mental health setting

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of and skill in the application of ethics, theories, methods, practices, treatments and techniques of psychiatric social work; oral and written communication skills; knowledge of health services providing care to children, adolescents and adults; knowledge of community resources in the area of health and social services and the ability to utilize them effectively; knowledge of mental disorders and diseases; knowledge of laws governing mental commitments; skill in interviewing patients and family members and accurately assessing their needs; ability to work as a member of a mental health or health care team; ability to work with people of all social, economic and educational levels; ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships; ability to work effectively and harmoniously with staff, patients, families, and agencies.
