Environmental Services Worker

Compensation Range: $15.62 – $17.40/hr

Job Summary

Perform cleaning duties and floor finishing in Zoo buildings and grounds. Set up and break down of furniture for internal and external events in the Zoo’s rental areas. Train Zoo staff on cleaning duties and techniques.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Cleaning – Work as a team member or independently to perform a variety of cleaning duties in public and office areas at the Milwaukee County Zoo. Duties include, but are not limited to: restocking, emptying trash receptacles, and cleaning bathrooms, windows ledges, stairways, railings, furniture, signs, play equipment and other various items.

  • Event Setup and Breakdown - Follow work orders to set up chairs, tables, risers, stages and podiums for internal and external events held at the Zoo. Ensure the space meets the needs of the customer as outlined in the work order.

  • Maintain Floors – Sweep, mop, wax and buff all hard surface floors. Vacuum and extract carpeted floors.

  • Training - Train seasonal Zoo Workers how to correctly use equipment, how to clean, what to clean, and what products to use.

  • Assist with Locking and Opening Doors - Lock buildings on second shift; unlock doors as needed on day shift. May be asked to assist the Night Keeper in emergencies.

  • Snow Removal – May be asked to assist the Grounds department with snow removal and salting walkways.

  • Operating Vehicles and Equipment – Operate trucks, lifts, plows, forklifts, utility carts, power washers, window washing equipment and various floor cleaning equipment.

  • Ability to push, pull, carry, and lift 50 lbs.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education, License/Certification and Experience

  • High School diploma or GED required

  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license required and must be maintained throughout incumbency

  • Previous custodial or environmental services work experience in a hospital or institutional-type setting preferred
