Custodial Worker 2

Position Type: Full-time, Hourly

Department: Zoo

Compensation Range: $15.16 - $16.89/hr
Closing Date: August 19, 2019 @ 5:59pm CST

Job Summary

Perform janitorial or cleaning duties; setup and break down for events in the Zoo’s rental areas; and training of Zoo staff on cleaning duties and techniques. 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Cleaning – Work with a group or as an individual to perform a variety of janitorial or cleaning duties at the Milwaukee County Zoo. To be responsible for custodial work in assigned areas, to requisition and issue cleaning supplies and materials.

  • Maintain Floors – Sweep, mop, scrub, wax, and polish floors.

  • Event Setup and Takedown - To set up and break down tables, chairs, risers, stages, and podiums used at public and private events held at the Zoo. Follow prints and instructions of the event coordinators.

  • Training - Train Zoo Workers how to correctly use equipment, how to clean, what to clean, and what products to use.

  • Snow Removal - Assist the Grounds department with snow removal and salting walkways.

  • Operating Vehicles and Equipment – Operate trucks, lifts, plows, forklifts, and various floor cleaning equipment.

  • Ability to push, pull, carry and lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Other duties as assigned including in the assisting of the Night Zookeeper. 

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education, License/Certification and Experience

  • High School diploma or GED required

  • Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License required and must be maintained throughout incumbency 

  • One (1) year or more of custodial or janitorial work experience required

  • Work experience in a hospital or institutional-type setting preferred
