Assistant Accounting Treasury

Position Type: Full - Time, Hourly

Department: Treasury

Compensation Range: $17.79 - $19.93 ($36,988.84 – $41,468.83)
Closing Date: January 18, 2019 @ 5:59PM CST

Job Summary:  Under general supervision the Assistant Accountant will maintain journals, ledgers, records and reports.  Retrieves information and reports using on-line banking software. Prepares accounting entries for bank transfers and posts all delinquent tax payments received for delinquent taxes.  Prepares and records daily bank deposits for the Treasurer's Office and for delinquent tax payments.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  1. Reviews bank activities for incoming payments for outstanding receivables, "Positive Pay” exceptions and deposit verification reports for checks issued.  Prepares bank deposits for the Treasurer’s Office, Prepares “Cash” and “Non-Cash” reports for daily deposits.

  2. Prepares and posts all delinquent tax payments received for delinquent taxes and prepares bank deposits and a cash receipts document for these payments.  Maintains Unclaimed Funds List and prepares proper paperwork when a claim is made.

  3. Records stop payment requests, prepares and records replacement checks for the following departments: Payroll, Accounts Payable and Retirement.

  4. Prepares Journal Vouchers to reflect daily bank activities in the Treasurer's Office.  Prepares manual warrant documents to reflect daily activity of ACH payments made to vendors.  Approves “Cash Receipt” documents on a daily basis in the Advantage Accounting System.

  5. Records, stores and retrieves files and information when necessary.

  6. Perform other duties as needed and assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a current resident of the State of Wisconsin

  • Associate Degree in Accounting

  • Experience with data entry and Intermediate level working with Microsoft Excel and Word

  • One year of related practical work experience in accounting


Preferred Knowledge and/or Experience:

  1. Bachelor Degree in Accounting.

  2. Experience working with account receivables.

  3. Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills.

  4. The use of online banking software


Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The ability to work with high volume and variable work demands and deadlines.  Including high level of internal and external communication. The ability to work effectively and harmoniously with others.  Organizational, analytical and problem solving skills.  Knowledge of personal computers, office machines, computer faxing which includes data processing, word processing, tax, spreadsheet software, internet banking, accounting theories, principles, practices and procedures. Knowledge of automated accounting systems oral, written, internal and external communications.  


Physical Demands: Standing, Walking, Sitting, Squatting, Talking, Visual.  The Ability to Lift/Carry, Push/Pull up to 30lbs, Manual Dexterity and Upper Extremity and Repetitive Motion.
